Too many rays of sunshine
The sun shone in Abetone this year, and Honi put up a reasonable performance in the slush. It continued to shine during the eight hour drive back to Meribel and shone even more in the Trois Vallees.
I lie, it rained for one day in Courcheval and, after waiting around for four hours in the drizzle, Honi fought her way through the slush to a respectable podium before moving to Meribel to slalom through mud. Sam by that time was in Courcheval trying, not very successfully to hold an edge in the ice.
Start times got earlier and earlier to avoid the heat. 'Honi do you think I will wake everyone up if I flush the loo' yelled Issy across our bedroom door at five a.m on day three. Racing was finshed by 11 am and I wished I have brought my walking boots or that we had stayed in a place with a functioning internet connection.
The season ended in mirror image to how it had started. Honi pulled it all together and topped the Children 2 podium while Sam took a crashing tumble and never quite got it back together.
That's ski racing. I feel for all those whose Easter ski-ing holiday was ruined by the lack of snow this season, but this particular skier is just pleased it is all over.
